Exquisitely Handcrafted Pens of Domestic and Exotic Woods and Beautiful Resins

The Process of Penmaking

Pens begin with "blanks" of wood.

Blanks are cut in half and drilled through the middle.

Pens have copper tubes inserted through the drilled holes.

Craftsman begins the process of turning the wood.

The lathe tools cut away the wood as the lathe spins, rounding the square blanks.

The blank on the right has become rounded; the one on the left is partially rounded.

The finished pieces of wood with metal parts, ready to be pressed together. (Sanding and finishing of the wood are done on the lathe.)

The finished pen!
(The process takes about one hour.)
